Riga 322:
:::"Perhaps ironically, that role was strengthened further under Democratic Party (PD)-led governments since they were perceived to be implementing neoliberal policies combined with aggressive anti-union policies (especially under Renzi)"
:::Italian Politics in an Era of Recession: The End of Bipolarism?, p. 4
:::"Indeed, the construction of the new single European market, backed by many socialist leaders, was inspired by neo-liberal and monetarist principles which were more difficult to reconcile with classical Keynesian goals. This was soon realised by the PDS which, during the 1994 election campaign, ‘strove to present itself as the firmest champion of financial orthodoxy’ (Abse, 2001: 68)"
