Line 42:
The Rising is an album by Bruce Springsteen, released in 2002 (see 2002 in music). Springsteen's first record of any sort in seven years, this much-anticipated first outing with the E Street Band in 18 years was everything fans hoped it would be. Mostly a reflection on the September 11 attacks, it was a critical and popular success, and hailed the return of "The Boss".

Surprisingly, most of the songs on the album had been written before the September 11 attacks. "Further On (Up The Road)" was preformed live in Madison Square Garden during the summer of 1999, it was recorded live by HBO which decided against airing it in the special, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band: Live In New York City. The song "My City of Ruins" was originally recorded about the dwindling state of Springsteen's homewtownhometown Asbury Park in the late 1990's. "Waiting On A Sunny Day" was originally written for either the Lucky Town or Human Touch albums.
