The show centers around the Kelly family. The central character was the father, Martin Kelly, a widowed architect. He lives with his ditsy secretary Betty, originally from the town of Walgett [[New South Wales]], his son Simon and his daughters Debbie and Jennifer in [[Chatswood]], a suburb of [[Sydney]]. Nudge, Simon's best friend also dropped over regularly in search of food.
