Line 1:
The Italian National Road Race Championship is cycling race were the italian cyclists decide who will become the champion for the year to come. First race took place back in 1885 and was won by Giuseppe Loretz. At the beginning there were often back-to-back wins from many riders. One of the remarcable achievements is a range of 9 wins by the Costante Girardengo, between 1913 and 1925. Surely if not for the First World War, wich blocked the running of the championship for four years, from 1915 untill 1918, Constante would gane much more victories. Despite this, he also has the record for most consecutive wins, with 7 of them. After his winning streak has ended another italian cycling legend won 4 races in a row, it was the Alfredo Binda. After him, 5 championships in a row have been won by Learco Guerra. From then on, non of the riders dominated that much, although Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi havehas rittenwritten to theirhis namesname 4 victories apiece. In the last years more then one victory was claimed by Paolo Bettini, Salvatore Commesso, Massimo Podenzana and Gianni Bugno. Last winner is the Giovanni Visconti. Non of the road champions have yet to claim a win in the time trial race.
