L'ideatore della serie, [[Lee David Zlotoff]], aveva annunciato al [[Maker Faire]] [[2008]] di poter produrre un nuovo film su ''MacGyver''; egli ha detto inoltre che per la produzione del film ci sarebbe stato a disposizione un alto budget.
