In terms of [[object-oriented]] approach, CLX forms an object hierarchy where the TObject class serves as the ''[[Superclass (computer science)|base class]]''. All other classes inherit or indirectly inherit the TObject class. This is necessary as Delphi does not support [[multiple inheritance]], unlike C++. This is a common approach shared by the [[Java (programming language)|Java programming language]], [[Smalltalk]], and many other [[object-oriented programming language]]s.
