Sakiewicz became the [[General Manager]] of the [[Tampa Bay Mutiny]] of [[Major League Soccer]] in 1996, and was named MLS Executive of the Year in 1999. On the heels of that success, he was hired to replace [[Charlie Stillitano]] as the [[MetroStars]]' GM, and was promptly named MLS Executive of the Year in 2000 as well.

Interestingly, Sakiewicz claims in his official bio that he played for [[FC Nantes]] of France and [[Belenenses]] of Portugal in the 1980s, neither of which is true. And his apparent success in Tampa Bay went nowhere; two years after Sakiewicz was gone, the team folded, and he is forever blamed by Tampa fans for ruining the franchise. His tenure with the MetroStars has been marred by wrestling [[New Jersey]] politicians about [[soccer-specific stadium]] construction, and increasing fan apathy.

In [[2005]], Sakiewicz was promoted to president of AEG Soccer New York/New Jersey, and [[Alexi Lalas]] took over as the MetroStars GM.
