Michael Moore Hates America is a documentary film directed by a
Wilson's film ia a clever, intelligent critque of Michael Moore's "documenatry" film style. It is a jocular, good-natured and thoughtful anaylisis of documentary film making, as Wilson revisits some
of Michael Moore's shooting locations and subects from "Roger & Me" and "Bowling for Columbine".
Using famed documentarian Albert Maysles as a reference point, director Mike Wilson tries to make his film in "Michael Moore style" without breaking the rules of documentary filming making. This proves difficult as he tries to walk the line of showing the truth without manufacturing the events he needs for his film. Wilson attempts to interview Michael Moore but Moore refuses to be scrutinized and much of the film ends up satirizing "Roger & Me" as Moore ducks interviews and even berates the filmaker at a college campus.
The movie is subtitled The story of a rebel who took on Mike, an allusion to Moore's movie Roger & Me, during which Moore attempts to chase down Roger Smith for an interview. In this case, it is Wilson who seeks an interview with Moore. In the film, Wilson also interviews "average Americans" across the country, in addition to well-known conservatives such as Dinesh D'Souza Libertarians such as Penn Jillette and liberals such as the editors of a leftist Flint-based magazine, and Albert Maysles.▼
Although respected critics Ebert and Roeper gave the film "two thumbs up" and it has received good reviews, the film is being ignored by most Channels including Independent Movie Channels and Festivals that regularly air and support Michael Moore's films.▼
