Kornat, with the area of 32,525,315 m² the biggest of the islands, comprises two-thirds of the park's land area. Although the island is 25.2 km long, it is not wider than about 2.5 km.

There are no permanent settlements in Kornati. Simple houses in well-protected coves such as ''Vruje'', ''Kravjačica'', ''Lavsa'' and others are used by land owners, mostas a temporary shelter.
