In addition to the "Jewish, American, and English" mentioned in the article, Miss Hathaway has Irish ancestry, with (according to an interview she gave while promoting ''Ella Enchanted'') roots in Donegal and Cork. Furthermore, the "American" designation is of limited informational value -- for example, the skater Kristi Yamaguchi and the filmmaker Woody Allen are both "American," despite having widely different ethnic backgrounds.
