The magazine was one of the first major pornographic magazines in the United States to break the taboo that existed in the early seventies by showing more explicit views of the female genitalia then other popular magazines of the time such as ''[[Playboy]]''.

Flynt also publishes ''[[Hustler's Taboo]]'' magazine, which specializes in [[sexual fetishism|fetish]]istic material, such as the depiction of [[sexual bondage]] and [[urolagnia]].
