Red Sticks is the English term for a faction of Creek Indians (known as mvskoke in the language).

The term "red sticks" is derived from the red-colored war clubs and the alleged magical red sticks used by theirCreek shamans. This groupfaction of Creeks aggressively supported [[Native American traditionalism|traditional views of Creek society such as hunting and communal land. Inspired by the prophetsShawnee ofprophet Tecumseh and angered by what they perceived as the unrestrained encroachment of white culture and beliefs on their way of life, Red Sticks went to war against many of their own people who had close ties with the whites.

The Red Sticks came primarily from the Upper Towns of Creek Territory, whoand opposed white expansionism and rejected white culture. The Red Stick War, more commonly called the Creek War among whites, raged from 1813-1814. During the Creek War, Redsticks would often lash out at symbols of white influence. They would often kill domesticated animals, destroy farming equipment, and burn crops. Metal pots and pans as well as spun cloth would be routinely rounded up and burned. The Creek Civil War broadened to include American forces underafter the commandFort ofMims Massacre. The Red Sticks were led by JacksonWeatherford, Menawa, and Peter McQueen. The war resulted in the loss of half of the traditional Creek territory and a mass migrition of Creeks into the Florida Seminole territory.
