Having seen Billy dance for the first time, his father realises that dancing might be his son's future, and he decides to take him to an audition in London himself. Billy has never been far from his home town, and he and his father are awestruck by the size of London. Billy starts a fight with a boy from a rich background, but is accepted by the ballet school on the strength of his commitment to dancing.

Il film si conclude con una scena che ha luogo nel presente, quando suo padre e il fratello siedono in una sala da concerti in attesa che inizi l'esibizione di Billy. Si trovano seduti accanti a Michael, che è lì assieme al suo fidanzato per vedere Billy che balla nel ''[[Lago dei cigni]]''. Il film termina con l'entrata sul palco di Billy. <br/>
Ma quale piccola, maliziosa strizzata d'occhio del regista (percepibile forse solo agli addetti ai lavori) la messa in scena che lo spettatore vede non è una qualsiasi ripresa del ''Lago dei cigni'', bensì quellal'adattamento inglese,di [[Mathew Bourne]] (molto controversadiscusso ma anche di grande successo), interamentemesso ballatain scena per la prima volta a [[Londra]] nel [[1995]]. In questa versione l'intero corpo da uominiballo femminile del balletto fu sostituito da ballerini, ivied incluseè lequindi partiintrodotto femminili..apertamente il tema dell'omosessualità.
