BLat is an onimonopeia, denoting the sound an object make when suddenly stopped by another object. Blat is very similar to Splat. However, while splat is the sound a bird makes against a window, Blat is different because it involves a larger moving object and a more solid impact object. It also involves little or no liquid, or air being forced from pockets (Making the SP in the splat). A blat would be made by a fully grown man running at about 10mph hiting a perpendicular brick wall or door. Blat also tends to be less messy, as Splat involves liquid or air pockets of somekind, often causing the liquid that squirts out to make air pockets, further increasing the Splat sound. Also, a Blat is made by two objects when the moving object gives way slightly, not allowing much bounce. If the object is to light or hard it will make a Clack or a Chink. An Heavy object that bounces, such as a sack of potatoes, whould instead make a Thump sound. Finally, a Blat requires a non-moving object that does nt make a sound itself. The easiest way to test this is to hit the surface with a mallet for a base drum. Blat is a fairly unrecognized sound, often being confused or replaced with Splat, expecially in animation. The easiest way to make a blat is to have a person, dog, or other fast, dense mammal move at high speed and hit a strong, stable, stationary object, such as a brick or concrete wall.
