The jungles in [[Madagascar]] or possibly in [[Mindanao Island]], ([[Philippines]]) are rumored to have a species of tree with a gray trunk and vinelike stems which eats people and other large animals. In 1881, the South Australian Register was first to report a man-eating tree. The newspaper described a Mkodo tribe who sacrificed a woman for the gigantic tree.
It may be all fiction, but the vines of this large [[carnivorous plant]] are said to swing around and capture people yards away.
