The third sentence of the introduction ("LDPC was the first code to allow data transmission rates close to the theoretical maximum") does not really bring any valuable information. It all depends too much on what is meant by "close to the theoretical maximum". Either one should give a precise value like "within XX dB from theoretical maximum" with a corresponding reference, or one should lose the sentence altogether.
