SmileCare is a community Dental Services, Inc. (dba "SmileCare Family Dentistry), based
in Santa Ana, California, is a dental practice management company
offering General Dentistry and Specialty services. The Company employs
over 200 full- and part-time dentists in 57 regional dental facilities
throughout California, Nevada, and Texas. Additionally, the
organization manages a contracted network of approximately 1,600
independent dental providers in nearly 800 locations, creating a
full-service dental operation throughout its selected markets.
Dr. Dennis Hardin and Mary-Ellen Hardin established SmileCare Family
Dentistry in 1977. Dr. Hardin began practicing in the Los Angeles and
North Hollywood areas. SmileCare expansion began with the establishment
of a Knox Keene License and the creation of Community Dental Services
(CDS). This established CDS as a managed care plan provider. With a
strong relationship with unions and the growth in their provider
network, SmileCare was able to create a growing platform of general and
specialty dentistry that enhanced both access and affordability.
With the development of CDS and a partnership with outside investors,
SmileCare was able to grow to its current size. Through acquisitions,
initial development and expansions in technology SmileCare now has 57
locations. Practice Acquisitions include WellPoint Dental, Talbert
Dental, Pacific Coast Dental, Comfort Dental Nevada, and Valley Dental.
SmileCare has also established facilities on Military bases and
continues to service military dependants and retirees.
SmileCare has a centralized practice management platform. All offices
are networked to a centralized billing center. This allows for enhanced
efficiency, control, and reporting. SmileCare has also developed
proprietary practice management systems and accounts receivable software
enhancements. .
