:: I was told by an ex-BEA employee providing an Oracle WebLogic course that T3 referred to JDBC type3, which is what WebLogic was trying to be at the time, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JDBC_driver#Type_3_Driver_-_Network-Protocol_Driver rather than a linguistic corruption of "3 tier architecture".
