Main article:Jeffrey Vernon Merkey

Jeffrey Vernon Merkey, a controversial Software Engineer, has participated in the Linux kernel mailing list for many years, and some of his postings have aroused some controversy, including an offer to the kernel developers of $50,000 for the right to make a BSD-licensed version of Linux, an attempt to mediate between the The SCO Group and the Linux community in the SCO-Linux vs IBMcontroversies lawsuits, and an offer to supply peyote to New Yorkers after the 9-11 attacks. Merkey claims that he is not the author of the last of these.
