In Season 3, Episode 4 "[[The Library]]," the [[New York Public Library]] contacts Jerry about a book, '''''Tropic of Cancer''''' he took out but never returned back in 1971. He faces the wrath of a cantankerous library cop, [[Lt. Bookman]] ([[Philip Baker Hall]]), although he insists that he returned the book after spending an afternoon with his girlfriend, Sherri Becker, which was proven to be a misunderstanding. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that George had borrowed the book, and had left it in the locker room while receiving a [[wedgie]]. The book ultimately was acquired by the boys' gym teacher, now a [[bum]].
