'''Spring Spree''', is an annual three-day festival held by the students of the [[National Institute of Technology, Warangal]], [[India]]. It began when the class of 1982 (thereafter known as the "Spring Spree batch") came up with the idea of holding a festival that would allow people with various talents from all over the country to meet, compete and enjoy themselves. Now, more than 25 years old, Spring Spree has grown to be ranked among the major festivals of [[Andhra Pradesh]] and India. Spring Spree is usually a three day event held between February and March of every year.

== Competitions ==

Competitions in various genres are a big part of Spring Spree, giving the participants an opportunity to present their talents to a national audience. Along with organized contests in various fields, many "informal" events arehave proven to be definite crowd pullers with their ad lib performances.

=== Music ===

Contests related to music have always been highly competitive and popular at Spring Spree. Along with many solo and duet singing in various genres, there are instrumental music contests. IRA, the battle of the bands has seen exponential growth into one of the most popular events at Spring Spree since its inception in 2009. The immortal [[Antakshari]] in various languages has been regularly featured, sometimes as an informal event.

Art events at Spring Spree have always clocked the highest number of participants. Non-traditional forms of art like sand sculpting, street painting, soap carving, graffiti and junkyard fashion design are highlighted. Chitr, a national level art exhibition features pencil sketches, paintings, cartoons and craft work sent in by students all over India.

=== Dance and Dramatics ===

Different forms of dance ranging from Indian classical dance forms to B-Boying are staged at Spring Spree in these contests. Competitions in various theatrical forms like mime and one act play are also conducted. Previous editions of Spring Spree have seen the evolution of group dance contests into a full fledged "Choreo Night", held on the big stage in the scale of a "Pronite".

Over the years, literary and oratorical contests at Spring Spree have grown to a level matched by very few peer colleges. Competitions like cryptic crosswords, midnight scrabble (an all-night scrabble tournament), Just A Minute (JAM), declamation etc. have been regulars at Spring Spree and have enjoyed high participation and tough competition. Competitions are also held in Hindi and Telugu. Since 2010, NIT[[Model United Nations|MUN]] has been held as a part of Spring Spree.

Alongside the various competitions, Spring Spree conducts training sessions dealing with a wide variety of interests. Workshops at Spring Spree in the past have included B-Boying/B-Girling Workshop by Zeb.Roc.Ski (a German graffiti and B-Boy artist), graffiti workshop by LOOMIT (among the world's top 10 graffiti artists), photography workshop by celebrity photographer, [http://www.munishkhanna.net/ Munish Khanna] and acting workshop by Lalit Parimoo (renowned for his role as Dr.Jackal in Indian television series [[Shaktimaan]]).

== Pronites ==

'Pro Shows'Pronites are live performances onby stageprofessionals and are among the spotlight events of Spring Spree. These shows are popular as they provide a chance for the college community and participants to witness top-level shows and enjoy and unwind after the hectic daytime fest events. This platform has seen the likes of bands Vayu (in 2007), Parikrama (in 2008), [http://www.drumcafe.com/ Drum Cafe], who performed at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics and Dr. [[Shobha Naidu|Sobha Naidu]], the Indian classical dance maestro (in [[Kuchipudi]]). Celebrities like [[Sekhar Kammula]] have also been invited to Spring Spree.

The Spring Spree is a student festival, solely conducted by the student community of the college. Spring Spree has its core committee of students who are designated core areas of responsibility, thus making the whole process function -specific. The core areas areinclude sponsorship, publicity, event management, logistics and hospitality. A student coordinator oversees the Spree work and works in close conjunction with a university-appointed staff advisor.
