Line 40:
These code pages are often viewed as part of Microsoft’s embrace, extend and extinguish strategy towards open standards. Fortunately, the transition to full Unicode support now offers standards-based applications the possibility of full interoperability with the character repertoire of these documents without giving up standards compliance on output.
Inoffical code pages
Early in the history of personal computers, when users didn't find their character encoding requirements met, inoffical
codepages were created using Terminate and Stay Resident utililies or even by re-programmed BIOS EPROMSs.
When more diverse character set support became available most of these code pages fade away, with some exceptions
like the Kamenicky or KEYBCS2 encoding for Czech and Slovak.
