SICSA haswas beenlaunched in December 2008 and is funded with an award of £14.5 million from the Scottish Funding Council with SICSA member universities providing matching funding <ref> [http://www.sfc.ac.uk/web/FILES/PressReleases_SFCPR382008/sfcpr3808.pdf SFC Press Release] SFCPR/38/08, 5th December 2008. </ref>.
