It was formed in 1992, and defines the conformance tests, approves the [[OpenGL]] specification and advances the standard.

The[[As currentof membersNovember as2004]], ofthe April 2006members are [[3Dlabs]], [[Apple]], [[ATI]], [[Dell]], [[IBM]], [[Intel]], [[Nvidia]], [[SGI]] and [[Sun Microsystems]].

[[Microsoft]] was originally a member, left in March 2003.

The group meets regularly every three months. Any company can apply for membership through an application.
