::Ah, I found a reference indicating that this "maintenance mode" stuff is an unfounded extrapolation, namely [http://gcc.gnu.org/java/status.html GCJ Status] which was last modified Nov 2 2012. I think that the GCJ guys are not just announcement oriented. I'll surf around a little to see what last update really was. [[User:Rursus|Rursus]] dixit.
