The term board of education is also used, rather as a word pun (also talking in account that the board often has a say in disciplining policy), for a wooden instrument ('board') used for the administration of painfull lessons ('education'), especially a [[spanking]] by means of a [[paddle (spanking)|paddle]]. In the same spirit, a pupil's punished posterior can appropriately be referred to as the [[seat of learning]].
