Opposite the school are the Winter Hills, from where the school gets the name.

The Headteacher is [[Roger BurmanTurdington Burgles]], who took over from the three Deputy Heads after the retirement of Mr. W. BinbridgeBainbridge

The school populates around 150 staff members and around 1700 students and accommodates children from Years 7-11.
