Several manufacturers are producing microchips that will be built onto a PC or laptop's motherboard during manufaturing. These chips will contain certificates, digital signatures or security key exchanges. Microsoft's new desktop Operating System Vista will use this technology in conjunction with BitLocker. BitLocker will encrypt the entire computer's volume for security. This is highly desireabledesirable since so many PCs and laptops are stolen and this would prevent a company's sensitive datedata from falling into the wrong hands. Pushing the security down to the hardware level in conjuction with software is a much better solution that just a simple system BIOS password or 3rd party software installed on the computer that can be compromised.
