FINE ARTS INSTITUTE" was Mazharul Islam's first project. it was built during 1953-1955. it holds the pride to be known as the beginning of bengali mordernism. it didnt follow neither the colonial style nor the traditional form but created its own style & language.
Mr.Islam was given a site which had numerous beautiful trees & he made it a point not to cut single one of them. his design started with finding interplay of spaces within this beautiful array of trees. & the result is a beautiful free flowing space continuously corresponding with the outside.he merged different elements of our traditional architecture such as forecourt,outhouse,screen,inner court but transformed them in a modern vocabulary.
