In 2011, SouJava became the first Java User Group nominated for the [[Java Community Process]] Executive Commitee, as JCP[[Java Community Process]] Expert Group Member. The following year, it was awarded as JCP[[Java Community Process]] Member/Participant of the Year.

SouJava is located in Sao Paulo, with additional branches in Campinas and Rio de Janeiro. Besides original co-founders Bruno Souza (JavaMan) and Fabio Velloso, currently most proeminent SouJava leaders are [[Thomas Modeneis]], [[Yara Senger]], [[Mauricio Leal]] (Maltron), [[Fabio Velloso]], [[Vinicius Senger]], and [[Otavio Santana]].
