**You've led a sheltered life, then. Search on Amazon for books with "microcoding" in the title; then search for "microprogramming". There are eight times as many of the latter. The ACM and IEEE held conferences and workshops on "microprogramming"; they held none on "microcoding". When Maurice Wilkes invented the technique in 1951, he called it "microprogramming", not "microcoding". "Microcoding" is effectively a slang term for "microprogramming", just as "coding" is for "programming". The existence of a commonly-used term that is less formal justifies a redirect, but does not justify renaming the article.
