→Pre-Anyang Oracle Bones: reply |

::::Chinese calligraphy#Evolution and styles does mention material from Zhengzhou from the middle Shang period, though not on oracle bones, but painted on ceramics, and it is said to consist mostly of single characters. There is a ref there, but I cannot tell if this is reliable as I don't read Chinese and this is not my field of expertise anyway. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 06:04, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
:::::The article is in English, but it doesn't make a strong case for this being writing. Kanguole 14:27, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
::::::Oh, I missed that, sorry; thank you. I didn't look closely at the ref and thought it was a book. In that case, I think all mention of pre-Anyang finds should be removed from Chinese calligraphy, as it is not germane to the – fairly specialised – subject (if anything, it belongs to the general article Chinese characters); well, the painted symbols (or designs, or ornaments, or whatever they might be) would be marginally relevant if they were writing, but pre-Shang signs certainly are not. What do you think? --Florian Blaschke (talk) 02:18, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
