Under [[DOS]] and [[Windows 9x]] this is accomplished by specifying the hardware codepage as a parameter to the [[device driver]]s [[DISPLAY.SYS]] and [[PRINTER.SYS]] (hwcp) in [[CONFIG.SYS]]:
