: I have done some measurements myself. Analysis of a page with 50 {{tl|Flagicon}}s takes 429±65 ms, analysis of a page with 50 {{tl|Flags}} takes 472±66 ms of CPU time. When I try to use the template with any of the above names, it does not return the correct flag. Al of these are flags are present in the correct compatible naming format Flag of [[Name]].svg on commons, yet when I try it out, e.g. {{Flags|Detroit|24px}} Detroit, {{Flags|Las Vegas, Nevada|24px}} Las Vegas, I only get blank flags.
