Il padre, Augustine Washington, originario della città [[Inghilterra|inglese]] di [[Sulgrave]] (un suo avo emigrò in [[Virginia]] nel [[1657]]), il quale aveva sposato in seconde nozze Mary Ball Washington, era un proprietario terriero che morì prematuramente quando George aveva soli 12 anni.
