The fishhook barrel cactus is native to [[southwestern United States]] and [[northwestern Mexico]]. More specifically, it can be found in southern [[Arizona]], southern [[New Mexico]], [[El Paso County, Texas]] and northern [[Sonora]] and [[Chihuahua (state)|Chihuahua]], Mexico.<ref name="USFS">US Forest Service.
