This is so frustrating that it is unknown how ADPCM works. My wildguess is that it takes the difference between the last and the beforelast samples, and reapplies the difference between the last and the current sample, and stores -8÷32768, ... 0, 1÷32768, 2÷32768, 3÷32768, 4÷32768, 5÷32768, ... 7÷32768 in a signed nibble.
