He was drafted in the third round of the [[2006 NFL Draft]]. Schlegel played college football at [[Ohio State University]] after transferring from the [[United States Air Force Academy]]. While at the Academy, Schlegel served as the team's co-captain, earning all-conference honors before transferring. He is originally from Dallas, which is where he graduated from Highland Park High School. Additionally, Schlegel was a state champion in high school wrestling. Schlegel is married to his high school sweetheart Deana. Schlegel is also known in Buckeye lore for his stories of hunting wild boar's in his home state of [[Texas]] with a knife and a dog.
