;Lack of understanding of own business processes
Without clear view on where things are at present it is difficult, if not impossible to define expectations from the new system. ERP system selection may become a nightmare very quickly if the company does not have clear expectations of what must be accomplished by a new solution.

;Ignorance of Industry specific / work specific ERP software
There are many vendors making/tuning ERP software for a particular industry/ particular scale of work. For eg:- ServiceMax <ref>https://www.servicemax.com/</ref> is a Salesforce cloud solution specific to Field service management. However, its not a known solution as much as Sales-force itself. Thus, many companies tend to employ well-known ERP software and try customizing it instead of doing a full research on variant available solutions of the same ERP vendor.
