The album is to follow the band's third studio album, ''[[A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships]]'', released on 30 November 2018, thus completing a cycle of album releases dubbed the "Music for Cars era".

== Background ==

In 2017, The 1975 announced their third studio album would be titled ''Music for Cars'',<ref>{{Cite news|url=https://www.spin.com/2017/04/the-1975-music-for-cars-new-album/|title=The 1975 Announce New Album Music for Cars|date=2017-04-27|work=Spin|access-date=2018-12-02}}</ref> in reference to their [[Music for Cars|third extended play of the same name]]. Lead signer Matty Healy stated on Twitter that the band would release the album in 2018, followed by the release of an album under the name ''Drive Like I Do'', the band's previous moniker, in the spring of the next coming years.

On 31 May 2018, the band released the single "[[Give Yourself a Try]]" from their third studio album, now titled ''A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships''.
