[http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wireless_tools_for_Linux&diff=prev&oldid=272146515 This edit] made the article internally inconsistent, using the terms "Linux" and "GNU/Linux" interchangeably. This is confusing; we should use one or the other. It also re-added an unneeded line break. It should be reverted. == Deprecated toolset ==
Modern editions of the Linux (or GNU/Linux) distros use the "iw" suite, and "wireless-tools" (whose commands are described in this page) is no longer packaged.
This is not just "userspace shuffle", the Wireless tools package depends on a deprecated kernel API that is being phased out.
Confirmed on:
Debian 9+
Ubuntu 18+
It would be helpful to have this information added to the page (the current text implies the toolset is in active use, which is false) and the link to "iw" made more relevant, since it is the successor to the wireless-tools toolset.
