Bengt Eliasson, whichwho at the time was a consultant from Ericsson, wrote the basic parts inof the kernel.

OSE uses ''[[signal (computing)|signal]]ing'' in the form of messages passed to and from [[computer process|process]]es in the system. Messages are stored in a [[Queue (data structure)|queue]] attached to each process.

The system exists in several revisions named ''OSE Delta'', ''OSE Epsilon'' etc. Most companies developing software with OSE use [[compiler]]s from [[IAR Systems]] and [[ARM architecture|ARM processors]].
