A good example of one is ModelUSgov which has a dedicated player base to writing government legislation, writing press, and simulating the American judicial system. Its elections are simulated using a player built calculator which rewards points for effort put into sim activities.
 
A terrible version of an online game on Reddit is Model Canadian House of Commons which is dying off because they banned everyone, their mod thinks that the genre is "not notable."
