Roderick began his coaching career at BYU, his [[alma mater]], as a graduate assistant for the offense. He then spent a year at [[Snow College]] before getting hired by [[Southern Utah University]]. He spent two years at SUU as the offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and running backs coach. After those two years he left for the University of Utah where he was the receivers coach for 5 years.
