Request Information
- Request made by: Dialecticas 01:29, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- Where is the issue taking place?
- Talk:Criticisms of Marxism
- Who's involved?
- myself (Dialecticas), and Ultramarine.
- What's going on?
- My view is that Ultramarine has a bias against Marxism proper, and is using that pov in defense of a particular section in the article Criticisms of Marxism. For full disclosure, I am a Marxist. I believe, however, that my concern is for npov and appropriateness, and would like to see a strong article on Criticisms of Marxism rather than one filled with ambiguous criticisms. Please see Talk:Criticisms of Marxism, especially the "Intro" section, for specifics.
- What would you like to change about that?
- I would like a mediator to look at the dispute and give their view of our opinions, and if one of us is "out of line."
- Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
- I am fine with working in the open. Please reach me on my user talk page with any questions or comments. Thanks a lot!
Mediator response
Compromise offers
- I would surely change my opinion on the inclusion of the controversial material if Ultramarine would include what I have requested; that is, a clear and verifiable link between the work of a certain individual (in this case, Eric Hoffer) and a direct and specific critique of Marxism.
Discussion
While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.
- Ultramarine has continued to push an uncited, irrelevant POV. Furthermore, upon some cursory research concerning the Criticisms of Marxism entry, it seems as if Ultramarine has made this his/her *personal* project, jealously guarding any edits and continuously reshaping the page to his/her liking. If there is no further progress in this dispute, I will look for punitive action to be taken against Ultramarine. This user cannot bully the rest of us with their "pet project." --Dialecticas 14:31, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Upon reviewing the article's talk page, I found that statements such as Ultramarine, do not edit this page again without the requested information (demands for Ultramarine to add content supporting Dialecticas' position) are unwarranted, unreasonable and contrary to the spirit of writing an encyclopedia. Next: Infinity0 could make better use of his time adding counter-arguments to Ultramarine's work himself. Lacking sufficient time, as Infinity0 claims, is not justification for demanding another editor undertake this task. I suggest Infinity0 spend what little time he has recruiting supporters for his pro-Marxist POV to conduct the appropriate research and make the appropriate edits. Demanding that an unwilling non-Marxist do this borders on silly. Rklawton 23:16, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Lastly: it appears that Ultramarine has indeed added page numbers to his references as demanded. So what's the problem? Rklawton 02:02, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
I accept Alan.ca as a mediator regarding the Criticisms of Marxism page. Sorry, Alan.ca, for not using the template properly. I'm new at this. --Dialecticas 01:33, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
