Il 31 luglio 2018 Matt Riddle ha firmato un contratto con la WWE, apparendo poi tra il pubblico del Barclays Center a NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV il 18 agosto. Il suo debutto è avvenuto nel territorio di sviluppo di NXT nella puntata del 31 ottobre, dove ha sconfitto facilmente Luke Menzies. Il 17 novembre, a NXT TakeOver: WarGames II, ha sconfitto Kassius Ohno in un match durato soli sette secondi. Il 26 gennaio 2019, a NXT TakeOver: Phoenix, ha battuto nuovamente Ohno. Nella puntata di NXT del 20 marzo Riddle ha partecipato ad un Fatal 5-Way match che comprendeva anche Adam Cole, Aleister Black, Ricochet e Velveteen Dream per determinare lo sfidante di Johnny Gargano per il vacante NXT Championship a NXT TakeOver: New York ma il match è stato vinto da Cole. Nella puntata di NXT del 27 marzo Riddle ha sconfitto Kona Reeves. Il 5 aprile, a NXT TakeOver: New York, Riddle ha affrontato Velveteen Dream per l'NXT North American Championship ma è stato sconfitto. Nella puntata di NXT dell'8 maggio Riddle ha sconfitto Adam Cole. Il 1º giugno, a NXT TakeOver: XXV, Riddle ha sconfitto Roderick Strong. Nella puntata di NXT del 17 luglio Riddle ha sconfitto Arturo Ruas; nel post match, però, Riddle è stato brutalmente attaccato da Killian Dain. Nella puntata di NXT del 21 agosto Riddle è stato poi sconfitto da Killian Dain. Nella puntata di NXT del 18 settembre Riddle ha affrontato Killian Dain in uno Street Fight ma esso è terminato in no-contest.
