Clyde Coombs devised what is referred to as Coombs' method of election system. Coombs' method is a form of preferential voting, and works like Instant Runoff Voting in reverse. The candidate who has a majority of last place votes is eliminated. The process is repeated until one candidate has a majority of first place votes.
