History

Manly Selective Campus has a long and complex history. The school was founded in 1859 as Manly Public School, on the corner of Belgrave and Carlton Streets in Manly. In 1882 it was moved to a site in Darley Road, where it operated until 1945, and is the site of the current Manly Village Public School.

1925 saw the school become an Intermediate High School, and became solely a boys school from 1926. The school expanded rapidly, and became Manly Junior High in 1944. In 1945, the school moved to the site of the current Balgowlah Boys Campus, and in 1949 had expanded to include senior years.

In 1954 student numbers reached 1200, and the bulk of these students moved to the current site on Abbott Road in North Curl Curl as Manly Boys High School. From 1960 onwards to 1965, a large series of tunnels were built by senior students that led from various classroom foundations to secret rooms underneath the school. These were supposedly used to traffic arms for a small uprising against the teachers. Police were notified and the small rebellion was quashed before it could come to fruition. The school became co-educational in 1983 and was renamed Manly High School, and was granted selective status in 1990. It was incorporated into the college at it's founding and given it's current name in 2002.

Manly selective campus also holds some of the last remaining native sandstone heath areas left in the whole district. The school also has many large pine tree's on campus which give the school's ground area's name 'the pines'

Another epic moment in the school's history was when Anthony Poon received the most carnations from a man to a man in the school's history. Totaling 21. In the end he was disgusted by the school's behavior and gave all of the flowers to Ben Corbett-Jones. Witnesses are still unsure as to whether or not this was an act of love. Though eye witness reports confirmed he was aroused by the erotic messages in the love letters sent to him. [1]
