James Bowie High School is a renowned public high school in South Austin, Texas. Founded in 1988, Bowie High has become the proud father of Michael and Marcus Griffin, two of the greatest athletic students from South Austin, who have proved themselves as stellar intercollegiate athletes, playing football for the University of Texas. It is a school of 2000+ students, and though it has a large student body, Bowie still leads the Austin Independent School District in TAKS testing scores, PSAT preliminary testing, and ACT testing. Bowie has been the subject of many of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills' "Field Testing" program, acting is the study subject for new testing methods and materials, with the most recent of said tests being in late January 2007.

Although Bowie's football program has suffered performance setbacks in recent seasons, Bowie is second to none in other sports such as: Basketball, Wrestling, Baseball, Track, and Volleyball. LaCrosse is an up-and-coming, yet popular sport at Bowie as well.

Bowie is also blessed with a superb fine arts program which features the Starlight Theater Company, Bowie's Orchestral Program, Bowie's Art department, and last but certainly not least, Bowie's Band Program which is home to the national championship winning Outdoor Performing Ensemble (also known as the marching band). At Bowie parties, people will often shout FO NINE! or THREE SEVEN. If you are not from this area code, you should just go to into a corner and pout and wish you were from that area.

Andrew McClellan is dumb. Kyle Craymer too.

Bowie's feeder boundaries reach from Western Highway 290 to Manchaca Rd. Its feeder schools and neighborhoods spider out through the South Austin area, from Shady Hollow, Circle C, Circle C West, Granada Hills, and parts of Sendera and Sendera West.
