Khushab District

(Urdu: خوشاب) is located in Punjab, Pakistan. It had a population of 905,711 of which 24.76% were urban in 1998. [1]

Khushab district situated between Sargodha and Mianwali, is one of the districts of Pakistan. It has two tehsils: Khushab and Noorpur Thal. It is an old city near the river Jhelum. The district is headquartered at Jauharabad. The population of Khushab is over 4 million.

There is a beautiful valley called Soon Valley. Well known tribes are AWAN,Sangha, Tiwana, Paracha, Baloach, Janjaua, Bandial, Utra,Saggu, Sheikh and many other casts. Its famous villages are Parachagan, Hassan Pur Humoka, Jalalpur Syedan Hamdania, Hadali, Mitha Tiwana, Okhali Mohla, Gunjayal, Adhi Kot, Chan, Rangpur,Noorpur, Jamali,Girot, Nali, Nari, Khatha, Dhak, Khhotakka, Bansi, Balwal, Monara, Nowshera, Anga, kufri, Soon Valley, Choa, Warchcha, Obhal, etc.

Jauharabad is a district headquarter of Khushab District, Punjab, Pakistan. Jauharabad, derives its name from the Urdu word "Jauhar" which means "Atom" that is why it is called Jauharabad being the "Atomic City of Pakistan".

By the census of 1998 Jauharabad has a population of 39477 people. Today population of Jauharabad is more than this. Jauharabad, a new town was developed in 1953. After 52 years this town has grown into a city. Many people from this town are scattered over all parts of the world

It is a combination of traditional plus modern city where desert meets mountains. It is a really nice place with really peaceful and cordial people. Jauharabad has got only one Bazaar which is known as Main Bazaar known for its special sweets shops, like Amin Dhoda Shop. Dhoda is a famous sweet of Jauharabad & this city is famous for dhoda sweet.

It was once becoming the capital city of Pakistan but as the government changed, the capital shifted from Karachi to Islamabad instead of Jauharabad.

Jauharabad as a model city, now it has expanded itself after becoming the "virtual district", as due to technical reasons all district administration offices of Khushab Dstrict are located here.

Jauharabad has a unique ___location. It is surrounded by river Jhelum, Thal Desert and Sakeser mountains.

In 2007 Jauharabad became twined with a town in the United Kingdom called Walsall.

Soon valley consists of beautiful lakes, waterfalls, jungles, natural pools and ponds. Soon valley is also blessed with ancient civilization , natural resources, and fertile farms.

Khushab is a rural district of Punjab province in Pakistan; situated between Sargodha andMianwali. It has two tehsils: Khushab and Noorpur

Thal. It is an old city near the river Jhelum. Even the river passes through the area. It also has a desert THAL.The district is headquartered at Jauharabad. The population of Khushab is well over one million.

In its jurisdiction falls the famous Soon Valley. The Well known tribes are Tiwana's (Tiwana), the renowned and largest tribe/family of Khushab District and one of the most dominant is the area, some of the most famous politicians of Khushab are from Tiwana family, Khuda Buksh Tiwana, Ghulam Muhammad Tiwana, Ehsan Ullah Tiwana are from the few most of the famous politicians. After Tiwana's are the AWAN's, Baghoor, Paracha, Baloach, Bandial Family,Noon Family, Utra, Saggu and maikens. Originally they belong to distt. sargodha(tehsil shahpur).many other casts of Jat. Its famous villages are Hadali (The Hub of Tiwana's), Mitha Tiwana, Hassan Pur Hamoka, Bola, Roda, Parachagan, ), Jalalpur Syedan Hamdania, Okhali Mohla,Gunjayal, Mitha Kho, Adhi Kot, Chan, Rangpur,Noorpur,Jamali, Girot, Nali Nari, Khatha, Dhak, Khhotakka, Bansi, Balwal, Jaba, Khabeki, Mardwal, Nowshera, Anga, kufri, Choa, Warchcha, Obhal, etc.


Malik Naeem Khan Awan was another important personality and an influential politician. He worked very hard for the development of Soan Valley. People of the area have talent but due to lack of education they are forced to join only government services.


'''Malik Karam Bakhsh Awan''' of Padhrar was the famous person of the area. He founded TANZEEM-UL-AWAN for the betterment of Awans. He gathered awans of Pakistan on one plateform. He provided his own land for the establishment of Government College Naushera. He was politically very strong and challenged the political supremacy of Tiwanas in the district.


Soon Valley is the hub of AWANs. The area has a special attraction for the member of Awan tribe because their common anncesstor Qutab Shah was inahbited in this area. Soon Valley is an important hill station of punjab after Murree. The people of the area are recognized widely for their bravery and medieval traditions. The valley has beautiful lakes and gardens. The people of the valley are hardworking and religious minded. Unlike tiwanas they were not the slaves of British rulers. They voted for Pakistan on the advise of Pir Mehar Ali Shah of Golra Sharif against the will of Tiwanas (who were staunchest allies of British Raj.)

Khushab District has sumptuos reserves of mineral as a large portions of Salt Range lies in Khushab District. Soon Valley is situated in this range. About 7 to 12 percent of population is attached with mining of different minerals majorly Coal and Rock salt.2nd and 3rd largest mines of salt of the world are in this city. The Warrcha is 2nd and 3rd is Sangha Salt Mines.

Further more Khushab is a district which is famous because it consists of beautiful lakes, waterfalls, jungles, natural pools and ponds, mountains and thal (desert areas), rivers and lush green agriculture land. Its famous for its DHODHA & PATEESA.

This is a historical city of province Punjab. Geographically this is quite unique district of Pakistan which has mountains, deserts, lush green harvesting land, lakes and river. SOON valley is one of the most beautiful hill stations of Pakistan. This district is quite rich in natural resources (salt & coal) etc.. People are very hardworking and most of them are associated with farming and agriculture. Khushab is also known for its delicious sweets specially DHODA and PATEESA. Geographically one third of the district is hilly and is dominated by Awans and other minor tribes .Since there is no agriculture in the area this part of Khushab district is favoured by governments since British times as being a fertile colony for armed services and still majority of the population from this area goes to armed forces. The other two parts are irrigated lands between Khushab and Quaiadabad and desert area of tehsil noorpur thal. This desert area is the beginning of large desert Thal that continues into thar desert and India, s Rajhistan. As the rest of the Punjab, people have always stayed loyal to governments. Starting in 1980s The disrtict was classified as tax relief zone for the new industies .This led to establishment of lot of Industries including cement, sugar,textiles and so forth.

There is a 50 MWT heavy water reactor in Khushab. The facility is located around 105 km NW from Faisalabad and around 45 km West from Sargodha Air Force Base.

This reactor shows no visible output of electricity generation. This facility is said to produce enough plutonium for 1-4 nuclear weapons each year. It has around 8 cooling towers located 50-70 metres due east of the main reactor building.

The facility has a heavy water plant on site located around 3 km south of the main reactor building. The heavy water plant is located at 31°59'; 72°11'. The facility is heavily guarded, with both reactor building complex and heavy water plant having two individual security cordons each over and above the main facility cordon.
